Testing polymers in the adhesion of specimens with adhesive failures in “oil-commercial ground” contemporary painting
Abstract
This paper focuses on the study of sturgeon glue, Aquazol® 500, Beva® 371, Plextol® B500, Lascaux® Hydro-Ground and the sturgeon glue-Plextol® B500 mixture in the adhesion of test specimens simulating the separation between commercial preparation layers and oil paint. For this purpose, their optical, chemical (pH) and mechanical behaviour after curing was compared, estimating their adhesive capacity using peel tests (T) and 90° pull-off tests. The proposed methodology allowed the detection of risks in terms of pH, rigidity loss, and increased deformation capacity of the sturgeon-Plextol® B500 mixture. Some of the results confirmed the more excellent adhesive properties of this mixture and Lascaux® Hydro-Grund.
