De lo bélico a lo bello. Nuevas aportaciones sobre una colección del siglo XIX de reproducciones en escayola de piezas de armería
Abstract
The Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon has in its plaster casts collection a unique set of ten objects that reproduce, mostly, pieces of armour. Despite the numerous 19th century plaster casts collections scattered throughout the world, the reproduction of this type of object – especially helmets and shields – has not been widely disseminated or used in museums and schools. The research carried out made it possible to associate these objects in an unprecedented way with a purchase made in 1884 by the former Academy of Fine Arts of Lisbon, as well as to understand the collecting context in which such acquisition took place, the original dimension of the collection (more numerous than the current set) and its historical and institutional trajectory.
