Methodology for the treatment of the support of the sculptural fountain in Weyler Square (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)
Abstract
This article shows the methodology developed in the partial intervention of one of the scallops of the sculptural fountain in Weyler Square (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). The piece, carved in Carrara marble, had a series of cracks, fractures and fissures that endangered its structural stability. The cracks also facilitated leaks and prevented the fountain from functioning properly. There had also been inadequate previous work which put the conservation of the piece at risk. Thus, the treatments were adjusted to the complexity of the location and volume of the fountain and these previous interventions were eliminated. The solutions we propose have taken into account the urban, public and functional nature of the asset in order to guarantee its proper conservation.
