Study of laser and inkjet printing for chromatic reintegration of graphic works. The case of Exposition au Salon du Louvre in 1787
Abstract
The feasibility of chromatic reintegration through the application of digital techniques has been studied and developed during recent decades, with numerous examples and techniques developed in different areas of restoration. This work materially analyses a monochrome digital print for its application in the chromatic reintegration of a 19th century lithography. To understand the safety of the materials and the durability of the printing, an empirical study has been carried out on Japanese paper as a support with different finishes – starch, gelatin and methylcellulose – and printing techniques – laser and inkjet –, the results of which have allowed complete the restoration effectively.
